Polarised light micrograph of glucagon hormone crystals. Glucagon is a peptide hormone, produced by alpha cells of the pancreas. It raises the concentration of glucose in the bloodstream, an effect opposite to that of insulin, which lowers the glucose. Horizontal object size: 1.2 mm.
