Caption

Wright Military Flyer test flight. Footage of preparations for a test flight of the Wright Military Flyer. Orville Wright (the pilot) and his passenger are boarding the biplane aircraft (Wright is at right). US aviation pioneers Wilbur and Orville Wright produced a series of Wright Flyer aircraft models, starting with the first successful flight in a heaver-than-air machine (1903). Among the early designs they produced were several Military Flyer models that were demonstrated to the US Army, including several demonstration flights by Orville Wright here at Fort Myer, Virginia, USA. The first demonstration was on 28 June 1909, with the final flight (shown here) on 27 July 1909. The aircraft was purchased by the Aeronautical Division of the US Army Signal Corps on 2 August 1909.
