V-2 sounding rocket camera experiment. Footage of an engineer installing a camera on a V-2 sounding rocket in preparation for a flight experiment. This rocket was launched on 17 February 1950 by the US Army from White Sands Proving Ground, New Mexico, USA. The onboard camera viewed the Earth from an altitude of up to 122 kilometres. The V-2 rockets, originally developed by Nazi Germany, were used by the USA after World War II, both to aid the development of new rockets, and as sounding rockets to study the Earth's atmosphere. For the launch, see clip K005/3109. For in-flight footage, see clip K005/3111.
