V-2 sounding rocket launch, USA, 1940s. Footage of the launch of a V-2 sounding rocket in the USA after World War II. The V-2 rockets, originally developed by Nazi Germany, were used by the USA after World War II, both to aid the development of new rockets, and as sounding rockets to study the Earth's atmosphere. These launches took place between 1946 and 1952, mostly at the White Sands Proving Ground, New Mexico, USA.
