Caption

Granite can contain two types of enclave. This enclave is a small piece of metamorphic rock that has broken away, transported by the magma and trapped in the granite as it cooled. If it had been rounded, dark and fine grained it would have come from deep in the mantle and been a piece of basic magma that had not mixed with the granite magma. Geoscope, Lozere, France.
