Investigating equipotentials. Apparatus used to find equipotentials on a sheet of conducting paper (centre, black). Equipotentials are regions of an object or space that have the same potential, in this case the same voltage. The sheet is connected to a power supply (upper left) so that a current passes across it from one edge to the other. A probe (red) connected to a voltmeter (upper right), is moved around the sheet to find areas where the voltage is the same. These areas can then be investigated further.
