Pterocystis heliozoan. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Pterocystis a freshwater protozoan. This single-celled organism has many projections, known as axopods, radiating from its cell body. The axopods are used to capture prey and for movement. In this species the axopods are funnel shaped.
