Nuclear testing was carried out at the Nevada Test Site from 1951, with 928 tests carried out up to 1992. Jackass Flats was a test site for nuclear-powered rocket engines during project Project Rover and NERVA (Nuclear Engine for Rocket Vehicle Application).
