Child's hand. Coloured X-ray of the right hand of a ten-year-old boy. The eight wrist (carpus) bones, known collectively as the carpal bones, are at lower centre. The carpal bones articulate with the bones of the forearm, the ulna (bottom right) and radius (bottom left), to form the wrist joint. From the carpal bones, the five metacarpals extend through the palm and join to the phalanges, the finger bones.
