Common toad. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a young common toad (Bufo bufo), showing its large eyes and mouth, and its warty skin. Toads project their long sticky tongue (red) out of their mouth to catch prey. Young common toads eat small insects whilst adults eat invertebrates such as insects, larvae, spiders, slugs and worms. Magnification: x10 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
