Tamoxifen chemotherapy drug, molecular model. Tamoxifen is a drug that is used to treat breast cancer. It is a selective oestrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that binds to the oestrogen receptor on cancer cells and inhibits cell growth. It is also taken as a drug of abuse by male bodybuilders, as it prevents the gynaecomastia (male breast growth) caused by the steroid drugs taken to build muscle mass. The molecule's chemical formula is C26H29NO. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (C, grey), hydrogen (H, turquoise), nitrogen (N, blue) and oxygen (O, red).
