Caption

Object permanence. Baby on floor with toy duck. Image 3 of 3. In the series of images the toy is shown to the baby and then covered with a blanket. The baby then proceeds to uncover and find the toy. Object permanence is the term used to describe the awareness that objects continue to exist even when they can no longer be observed. In the theory of cognitive development of psychologist Jean Piaget, the understanding of object permanence is considered an important developmental milestone.
