Immature Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) resting on a log, Belchertown, Massachusetts. The mallard duck is found mostly in North America and Northern Central America. Ancestor of the common white domestic duck, wild Mallards frequently interbreed with domestic stock, producing a bewildering variety of patterns and colors. These ducks also hybridize with wild species such as the closely related American Black Duck.
