This axial (cross sectional) contrast enhanced CT image through the neck at the level of the hyoid bone shows enlarged bilateral cervical lymph nodes in this 17 year old with infectious mononucleosis which is caused by the EB (Epstein-Barr) virus. This results in enlargement of the lymph nodes within the neck as well as the adenoids and tonsils.
