This axial (cross sectional) T2 weighted MRI of the brain shows typical findings seen with Epstein-Barr Encephalitis. There is abnormal increased signal (brighter than normal) involving the basal ganglia (putamen, globus pallidus and caudate). This is a viral form of encephalitis.
