This axial (cross section) CT image of the brain shows advanced volume loss and ventricular enlargement for this 50 year old. The frontal horns of the lateral ventricles are barely indented by the caudate heads reflecting severe atrophy of the caudate and this is an imaging sign of this neurodegenerative process. Huntington's disease is the most common genetic cause of the involuntary movements called chorea. This disease is autosomal dominant meaning that there is a 50% chance of offspring developing this disorder.
