Nikola Tesla's secondary school. Historical image of the senior high school (secondary school) attended by Serb-US physicist and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla (1856-1943). He graduated frmo here in 1873. Karlovac was then in the Austrian Empire and is today in Croatia. It was within the Austro-Hungarian Military Frontier, with lessons given in German. In 1884 Nikola Tesla emigrated to the USA where he made key advances in areas such as alternating current power generation and transmission. A type of transformer is named for him (the Tesla Coil), as is the SI unit of magnetic flux density.
