Caption

Light and plant growth experiment. Time-lapse footage of a growing plant with a paper bag over the apical terminal bud of the plant. Placing a paper bag over this bud blocks off the light and removes the ability of the plant to grow towards the light. Instead, it grows straight upwards. The ability of plants to grow towards a light source is known as positive phototropism. This directional plant growth in response to light is regulated by photoreceptors and plant hormones such as auxin.
