Rudolph Diesel (1858-1913). Caricature of the German mechanical engineer and inventor Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel. Diesel is best known as the inventor of the diesel engine as well as his mysterious death, when his body was found in the North Sea after disappearing from the ship Dresden whilst on the way from Antwerp to a meeting in London.
