Mammoth fossil tusk excavations. Researcher excavating fossilised mammoth tusks, bones and other remains at the site of La Boella, near Canonja, Tarragona, Spain. These fossils date from around one million years ago. The mammoth was an elephant-like mammal that inhabited northern regions of the world and became extinct only a few thousand years ago.
