Male common pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) on frost-covered ground. The pheasant is a large long-tailed game bird and the cock (male) pheasant can reach lengths of 90 centimetres. It is native to parts of Asia and continental Europe and is found as an introduced species throughout the UK, North America and Australasia. It lives in woodland, scrub, farmland and marshes, feeding on vegetation, grains, berries and insects. Photographed in Kent, UK, in January.
