Gallbladder cholesterolosis, post-mortem. This condition, also known as strawberry gallbladder, is characterised by the abnormal deposition of cholesterol (yellow spots) in the lining of the gallbladder. It is asymptomatic. The gallbladder stores bile (produced by the liver), releasing it when needed into the intestines where it digests fat. Post-mortem examinations, also known as autopsies, are carried out to identify a cause of death, and to assess the health of a dead person's organs.
