Ciliates feeding on diatoms. Differential interference contrast (DIC) light microscopy footage of ciliates that have been feeding on diatoms. The diatoms are clearly visible being digested within the main body of the ciliate protozoans. Cilates are protozoans (a type of single-celled organism) that move using cilia. Diatoms are a type of algae. Strands of filamentary algae are also seen in this footage.
