Osteoporotic lumbar spine fracture. The fracture is of the body of the L3 vertebra (centre), and is due to osteoporosis. Osteoporosis (brittle bone disease) is most common in women after the menopause because they no longer produce the hormone oestrogen that helps keep bones healthy.
