Each Coxsackie B3 virus particle (blue) consists of a non-enveloped icosahedral (20-sided) protein capsid (coat) enclosing a single-stranded ribonucleic acid (ss-RNA) core. Coxsackie viruses, of which there are many types, are enteroviruses and are part of the Picornaviridae group. Symptoms of infection with viruses in the Coxsackie B subgroup include fever, headache, sore throat, gastrointestinal distress, as well as chest and muscle pain.
