Caption

Inflammation in the wrist of an 64-year-old woman at the site of insertion of an intravenous cannula. Inflammation at a cannula insertion site is often a result of superficial thrombophlebitis, the inflammation of a vein with blood clot (thrombus) formation. It usually subsides by itself but anti-inflammatory drugs may be taken to relieve pain.
