Burn. Burn to the foot of a 30-year-old male patient, one week after scalding himself with hot coffee. The boiling water has caused second degree burns. Second degree burns affect the epidermis (upper) and dermis (lower) layers of skin, often resulting in blisters. In this case the blisters have burst. Burns are generally dressed with an antibacterial dressing or left exposed to heal naturally in a sterile environment.
