Caption

Total solar eclipse, 21st August 2017. During a total eclipse, the Moon entirely covers the face of the Sun. This allows details to be seen that are usually hidden by glare, such as the prominences at upper right (pink), and the tenuous corona (white). The corona is the atmosphere of the Sun. At the end of totality, the bright surface of the Sun is first visible through canyons on the Moon's limb, producing an effect called the 'diamond ring'. Filmed from Nebraska, USA.
