Male bluethroat. Close-up of the head and colourful neck of a male bluethroat (Luscinia svecica). This bird feeds predominantly on insects. It inhabits wetlands and swamps throughout Europe and Asia. It migrates to northern Africa and India in winter. The males have blue throats, whereas females have a black crescent on a cream throat. Photographed by the Dead Sea, Israel, in October.
