ACCESS jet aircraft biofuel research. Test flight by a DC-8 jet aircraft (upper right) to study the effects of the use of biofuels. At lower left, a HU-25 Falcon jet is using instruments to measure the chemical components from the exhaust of the DC-8 aircraft. The DC-8 is burning a 50-50 blend of JP-8 jet fuel and a renewable alternative fuel produced from Camelina plant oil. The conclusions were that the use of the biofuels reduced the amount of pollution produced. This test flight was part of the first Alternative Fuel Effects on Contrails and Cruise Emissions Study (ACCESS). ACCESS I took place in 2013. ACCESS II took place in 2014. This flight took place over California, USA.
