Diver monitoring an artificial reef. Artificial reefs support and help establish plants and animals in areas of the seabed that lack an established ecosystem. This is a 'biohut' artificial reef, developed specifically for fish larvae and other small marine organisms. The biohuts were developed by the Ecocean company for use in ports and harbours. This is a test reef, placed in the lagoon of the French Mediterranean island of Embiez, here being studied by a researcher from the Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute (IOPR). Photographed in June 2016.
