Freshwater dinosaur (Mesosaurus brasiliensis) fossil. This fast-swimming predator is thought to have been the first reptile to return to the water from land and become fully aquatic. They measured up to one metre in length and lived in the Permian period (between 280 and 248 million years ago). This specimen was found in Brazil and measures 60 centimetres in length.
