Sea urchin fossils. Rock containing fossils of Pygurus blumenbachii sea urchins. The rock dates from the Kimmeridgian stage (between 155 to 150 million years ago). Fossils appear as rock slowly forms around objects buried in mud. As the rock forms, the shape and anatomy of buried animals and plants can be preserved. This specimen was found France.
