Sea urchin (Clypeaster sp.) fossil. This fossil dates from the Pliocene epoch (between 5 and 2.5 million years ago). Fossils appear as rock slowly forms around objects buried in mud. As the rock forms, the shape and anatomy of buried animals and plants can be preserved. This specimen measures 16 centimetres in diameter and was found Spain.
