Fish fossils. Rocks containing fossils of Araripilitys castelloi fish. Fossils appear as rock slowly forms around objects buried in mud. As the rock forms, the shape and anatomy of buried animals and plants can be preserved. These specimens, which date from the Aptian stage (between 125 and 112 million years ago), measure 30 centimetres in length and were found in Brazil.
