Skin tissue. Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a freeze-fracture through human skin tissue. The fracture plane (lower frame) has revealed the pseudo-stratified epithelium (below surface) and the underlying dermis (connective tissue ). The folded surface of the skin (upper frame) is covered by mature keratinocytes. Magnification: x165 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
