Water flea (Ceriodaphnia reticulata), dark-field illumination light micrograph. Water fleas are small crustaceans, commonly found in fresh water. They are filter feeders that ingest algae, protozoa or organic matter, and are a constituent of zooplankton. The body is protected by a bivalved carapace, which in this species is textured. Magnification: x71 when printed 10 centimetres high.
