Caption

Colon polyp, endoscope view. This is a sessile adenomatous polyp. Polyps are benign growths. They can be flat (sessile) or on a stalk (pedunculated). Adenomatous polyps originate from glandular tissue, or have glandular characteristics. If they turn cancerous, or grow large enough to obstruct the colon, they are surgically removed.
