Bladder tissue samples. This biopsy (tissue samples) was obtained using an electrocautery, an instrument that burns through tissue. It is attached to the end of a cystoscope, which is an endoscope probe used to look at the health of a patient's bladder. During a surgical procedure known as a cystoscopy, the cystoscope is passed through the urethra (the duct through which urination occurs) and into the bladder. It also usually has a camera at the end, which allows the doctor to identify any problems with the bladder. The biopsy allows further investigation of any abnormal features.
