Light micrograph of a thin section of an alloy, containing aluminium and titanium. Alloys of aluminium and titanium have a wide use in the aerospace industry, particularly in structural members such as wing spars in airliners. The light weight of aluminium is complemented by the strength of the added titanium, although for high temperature uses titanium may be used on its own. Magnification: x62 at 6x4.5cm size.
