The Starry Smooth-head (Photostylus pycnopterus) is a species of deep water smelt. They feed on crustaceans. This individual was trawled from between 1,500 and 1,200 meters depth, 2016. The species can be found from 2,870 meters depth to shallower depths of several hundred meters. Image courtesy of the DEEPEND project.
