Caption

This is a species of shrimp, Janicella sp., trawled from between 500 meters depth and the surface, Florida Straits, 2016. This species can eject a cloud of bioluminescent fluid to distract predators when it tries to escape. Mesopelagic crustaceans are common in midwater trawls in the Florida Straits.
