Trigonocarpus prehistoric plant and seed, illustration. This extinct plant produced large nut-like seeds that measured about 2.5 centimetres long. Fossils of this plant are found in the coal beds of the UK, and date from the Upper Carboniferous (310 to 280 million years ago).
