Nanoparticle lung therapy, illustration. Nanoparticles are being investigated for use in the treatment of a number of lung diseases. Nanoparticles could be used to transport drugs through the thick mucus that is a symptom of diseases such as cystic fibrosis. They could also be used to carry therapeutic DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) for gene therapy to treat lung cancer.
