Mesonyx, illustration. This mesonychid is an extinct prehistoric carnivorous mammal that existed around 50 million years ago (during the Eocene), with fossils found in the USA and China. Its appearance resembled that of a wolf or large wolverine. It reached lengths of around 1.5 metres.
