Caption

Dimylus feeding on a mollusc, illustration. This extinct prehistoric mammal was a small insectivore that was around 10 to 20 centimetres long. It had a proboscis, and also fed on crustaceans and other invertebrates such as the mollusc being preyed upon here. Dimylus, which resembles the modern desman, lived during the Miocene (23 to 5 million years ago). A frog is at lower right.
