Elasmotherium, illustration. This extinct prehistoric mammal was a large rhinoceros. It lived in what is now Europe and Siberia, from 2.5 million to 29,000 years ago, from the Pliocene until the Pleistocene. It reached 5 metres in length and 2.5 metres in height, and weighed up to 5 tonnes.
