Tetanus vaccination. Dose of the tetanus vaccine being injected into a woman's upper arm during a vaccination session for schoolchildren. Several doses are given in childhood to immunize against the disease, while adults should have an immunisation booster injection every ten years. Tetanus is caused by Clostridium tetani bacteria, which produce a toxin that acts on nerves controlling muscle activity. Painful muscle spasms occur which may be fatal. Photographed in Lacor, Gulu, Uganda.
