Titanium-aluminium alloy. Cross-section of a cylinder of titanium-aluminium alloy. The alloy's internal structure was formed during the solidification of the cylinder during manufacture. Alloys of aluminium and titanium have a wide use in the aerospace industry, particularly in structural members such as wing spars in airliners. The light weight of aluminium is complemented by the strength of the added titanium.
