Bursitis of the knee of a 49 year old man. Bursitis is an inflammation of a bursa, a fluid-filled pad that lubricates regions where muscles and tendons slide over bone. A bursa can become inflamed either through prolonged pressure or repetitive movements. The knee is a very common site of bursitis, where it is often caused by kneeling for long periods of time. Treatment of the condition involves immobilising the area and taking anti- inflammatory drugs.
